Divergent is a negative term in our contemporary efficient culture. The divergent tend to stray from the course of rightful motion. However, the idea is this painting is that the natural progression of life often is a divergent path. I was meditating specifically on my children while painting this piece. How they are diverting from the trajectory of their mother and I, and though frustrating at times, is a symbol of development and health. Diverting or differentiating from one's parents is actually a means of thriving as an individual. The Divergent are finding their own trajectory.
